Celebrating Bluegrass and Love

The Church of the Holy Name 1689 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA

Composer Carol Barnett has composed The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. She has combined the solemnity of a Mass with the downhome energy and invigorating rhythms of bluegrass.  The performance will be accompanied by Monroe Crossing. The two groups will also perform arrangements by Kevin Siegfried of Shaker Hymns. Monroe Crossing will also perform a set of their own music with their special blends of bluegrass.

Bluegrass Jam Camp (Wernick Method)

Austin Scelzo hosts a weekend of jam instruction using the Wernick Method, an inventive and time-tested pedagogy designed to build or improve confidence making music with others! All Bluegrass Instruments, all skill levels welcome. Hands-on learning in large and small groups. Understanding, low-pressure, experienced teaching from a certified teacher. Experienced Jammers are given extra challenges and can be grouped together. Make music with friends, make friends with music!

Grant Gordy Quartet

Cafe Amici 1640 Whitney Ave, Hamden, CT

Grant Gordy is a "guitar genius" according to Bluegrass Today. On mandolin is Dominick Leslie, who played with the Deadly Gentlemen, Noam Pikelny, and Hawktail, and is currently with Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway. Alex Hargreaves on fiddle has performed with Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Steve Martin, Sierra Hull, and everyone else in bluegrass. He is currently a member of Billy Strings’ band. Aidan O’Donnell on bass is a member of Mr. Sun, along with Darol Anger, Grant, and Joe Walsh. He has played with Steve Kuhn and jazz guitarist Ben Monder, among many others. Grant’s brand-new album, Peripheral Visions, has received rave reviews. He is also on the cover of  Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Jazz Guitar Magazine this month!

Drop-In Open Bluegrass Jam at Groton Hill

Friendly jams for friendly people, led by our fun faculty performers. Our Drop-In Jam Night is four jams in four genres, under one roof: Bluegrass with Frank Drake Irish with Laurel Martin Ukulele with Mark Femino Jazz with Dave Fox Music is a collaborative art form, bringing us together to listen, learn, and rip a few hot breaks. Join us as we open Groton Hill’s inspiring facilities to jammers from across the region. Pick your favorite genre and play, move from room to room, or just hang out with friends to listen over a pint. For intermediate players ages 16+. Bars are open for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Patrons must furnish a valid ID to purchase alcoholic beverages. $10 at the door - cash or credit card accepted.

Sanford Springvale Historical Museum presents Southern Rail

A joyous evening of high energy bluegrass in the beautifully restored Sanford Springvale Historical Museum.  Doors open 6:45.  Concert begins at 7:30.  Refreshments during intermission.
