Club Passim presents contemporary folk singer/songwriter Antje Duvekot plus bluegrass quartet The Stockwell Brothers Band on Saturday, September 10 at 5:00 and 8:00 pm. Antje Duvekot is a German-born, American-raised singer/songwriter whose songs have been critically praised for their hard-won wisdom, dark-eyed realism and street-smart romanticism. Her bicultural upbringing and relative newness to English have helped shape her unique way with a song, giving her a startlingly original poetic palette. They are the keys to the powerful, even revolutionary, empathy that informs everything she writes. She has won some of the top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, the Kerrville Folk Festival Best New Folk Award and the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act. Since the release of her debut studio CD “Big Dream Boulevard,” which was voted #1 Folk Release of 2006 by the Boston Globe and was named to the Top 10 Releases of the Year by National Public Radio's Folk Alley, Antje has been touring extensively, criss-crossing the US and Europe. She is a compelling live performer and has played at major festivals, including Newport, Mountain Stage, Philadelphia, Falcon Ridge, Great Waters and Kerrville. Her second CD “The Near Demise of the High Wire Dancer” was voted top album of 2009 by lauded folk station WUMB 91.9 FM in Boston. Bruce, Barry, Alan and Kelly Stockwell's music spans traditional and progressive styles, but their trademark acoustic sound features contemporary singer/songwriter material recast with banjo, alternative rhythms and three-part harmonies. They cover straight ahead bluegrass songs, finger picked acoustic guitar ballads, full tilt breakdowns and traditional mandolin tunes mixed in with more unusual fare - Americana melodies riding world beat grooves and Celtic, jazzy, even neo-classical … Read More »

The Blue Moon Coffeehouse in Rockland opens its new season of shows on Saturday, Sept. 17th at 7:30 p.m. with the Lula Wiles! All the members of Lula Wiles have spent their lives grounded in songs. Born in Maine to musical families, they began playing music together as kids at Maine Fiddle Camp, and eventually each made their way to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. Isa Burke and Ellie Buckland began performing as a duo in 2013, and Lula Wiles was born when Mali Obomsawin joined the band a year later. Based in Boston's thriving roots music community, The Lula Wiles have performed at premier festivals and clubs throughout the East Coast, including Club Passim, FreshGrass, the Sinclair, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Ossipee Valley Bluegrass Festival, and the Green River Music Festival. They were selected as Official Showcase Artists for the 2016 Folk Alliance International Conference. Roots authority No Depressions predicts the Lula Wiles "will be a huge force on the Americana scene for years to come."
