No bluegrass this Sunday!! but The FIREBOX IS OPEN... "...but we'll be back on the 24th...with Amy Gallatin" Sunday, November 24, 2013  5:00-8:00 PM The Firebox Restaurant "The friendliest room in bluegrass!" 539 Broad St Hartford, CT 06106 www.fireboxrestaurant.com for info call 203-650-3492 Check out this great article on the Bluegrass Series by Dick Bowden in BluegrassToday's webzine! http://tinyurl.com/76264bu Hello << TEST FIRST NAME >> Don't forget to check our Facebook page and sign on!! http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=122691277758554&ref=ts Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters ...from their website... The powerhouse duo of Amy Gallatin and renowned resophonic guitarist Roger Williams...20 and 40 year veterans of the New England music scene--joined forces a few years ago to explore their mutual love of country standards, served up with an acoustic treatment in the bluegrass vein. The result is a toe-tapping blend of heartfelt vocals, soaring harmonies and red-hot picking, traditional yet modern and distinct. Americana radio host Ed McKeon says: "Amy's vocals, with the power and tone of her voice, are tempered by Roger's baritone which has been sanded smooth by cigarettes and, shall we say, maturity. The song selections are perfect, the harmonies glorious, the sentiments wonderfully maudlin (like any good old country song)." The two are enhanced on mandolin and vocals by Roger's son, Berklee College of Music student JD, who--in the time-honored tradition of musical consanguinity complements his father's style perfectly-- and by veteran bassist Eric Levenson, formerly with Joe Val and the New England Bluegrass Boys and later with Boston City Limits. http://www.amygallatin.com/ ...and as always as many Appalachian Pals as we can find...will also be    there to help out during the middle break!  YOU?  Just lemme know if you wanna help entertain the folks!   No cover, tips encouraged...powerfully! … Read More »

Dan Bui and Friends

Outpost 186 186 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, MA

Dan Bui is a mandolinist hailing from Austin TX and a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He was initially introduced to music through classical piano and violin lessons but it was his discovery of the mandolin in high school that inspired him to delve deeper into music. He came to the Berklee College of Music to expand his knowledge of traditional styles, improvisation, composition, and overall musicianship. In addition to spending a lot of time in Berklee's recording studios, Dan was fortunate enough to study with master musicians John McGann, Joe Walsh, Darol Anger, and Jason Anick. He has also learned just as much from other young musicians in the fertile Boston acoustic music scene. For this special evening, Dan will be joined by some very talented Boston-area musicians (many of whom are also performing in the Outpost 186 series). They will be performing an eclectic mix of Dan's original music and tunes from the bluegrass and old-time traditions. Doors 7:30, Concert 8:00 Students $5 General Public $10 Email [email protected] for special "insider" information. Patrons are invited to bring their instruments for an after-concert pickin' party. === This Fall, Lord Geoffrey is presenting a "rising talent" (with the emphasis on Celtic / string band / old time music / contemporary variants) mid-week music series, featuring student artists from the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. Outpost 186 in Inman Square, Cambridge is the venue where Rushad Eggleston, John Mailander and Molly Tuttle launched the series in the Spring. It seats about 35, thus is small enough so no sound reinforcement is needed but big enough to accommodate discriminating patrons. Remaining series concerts: November 30 - Molly Pinto Madigan and … Read More »
