SUMMARY:An Evening with Matt Michienzie Band
DESCRIPTION:Matt Michienzie originally hails from Foxboro\, MA. Matt currently resides in Los Angeles\, where he plays with his countrified\, bluesified\, and grassified band. His passion as a songwriter is vividly clear: Matt sings from his heart and gives it his all in everything he plays. Whether fronting a bluegrass group\, jam band\, or country band\, Matt is able to combine his influential and eclectic music curiosities in a very tasteful and unique way. \n\n\n\nNot unlike many California grass bands\, MMB is a progressive bluegrass project. The roots of the band are in bluegrass…although they have a keen interest in incorporating other genres into their sound\, such as jam\, soul\, or traditional country. The band currently consists of fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, and bass. \n\n\n\nIn December 2022\, the Matt Michienzie Band flew back east to Matt’s neck of the woods to open for Tim Reynolds and TR3 at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River\, MA. The band won 1st Place Band at the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest – one of the longest running contests of it’s type. The band will be making their Grass Valley debut at this years Father’s Day Festival\, hosted by the California Bluegrass Association. They continue to tour both the west and east coast\, with Matt’s hometown theater MRPAC finding its footing as a fan favorite venue full of homecoming vibes.

SUMMARY:Whately Old Time Jam
DESCRIPTION:The Whately Old Time Jam takes place each month on the third Tuesday from 7pm-9pm-ish\, unless there is a special event preceding the jam such as workshop. We gather in Whately Town Hall Audititorium in Whately\, Massachusetts.\nThis is an Old Time jam\, keeping to tunes and songs in the Old Time repertoire. Speed and tunes will be up to those who attend. We’ll go round the circle so everyone can choose tunes and pace. Old Time chestnuts\, waltzes\, obscure and/or crooked tunes\, tunes that don’t resolve\, tunes with questionable chords\, tunes with weird numbers of A/B/C/D/E parts – all welcome if someone can lead it.

SUMMARY:Caleb Klauder and Friends - Lily P's
DESCRIPTION:Part of the OTAF night at Lily P’s. \nCaleb’s study and understanding of roots music is so dedicated and rich\, that he can hauntingly immerse himself in the same perspective of those old primitive country composers and write as if he was right beside them. Their album Innocent Road includes a clutch of lovingly arranged Klauder originals\, along with well-placed and rare covers. The pair bring the spirit of legendary country duos into their contemporary takes on country music. Trading vocals back and forth\, they complement each other strikingly well in an attractive meld of honky-tonk that brushes shoulders with trad bluegrass. Caleb has penned over 50 songs many of which are standards across America in honky tonk and bluegrass jams and festivals\, both on and off stage. There is a long list of bands and singers who have recorded Caleb’s songs over the years. \nThe blend of true harmonies\, the sharply-written country songs\, and the un-showy authenticity strike a rich vein that makes them seem like they are born and raised in Music City. They quietly pursue a musical vision without much of a care for what’s expected or in vogue at the time. There’s a lot to admire in this singular perseverance and honesty. \n“…a salve for dark times.” \n“…a vibrant array of genres and sounds\, from bluegrass to modern folk\, sharing in harmonies like some of the greats —Rawlings and Welch\, Harris and Parsons— and letting the power of their earthen voices fit to the song.” \n“…and uplifting approach to delivering a sometimes sad message\, using buoyant melodies and fiery\, footstomping arrangements.” \n-No Depression\, Mae Ferguson

SUMMARY:Twisted Pine at Spire Center
DESCRIPTION:On October 18th\, Twisted Pine releases its joyous third LP\, Love Your Mind\, on Signature Sounds Recordings. The title represents the quartet landing on a more expansive sound than ever\, after years of touring\, serious introspection\, bouts of self-doubt\, glorious bursts of creativity\, and many after-hour festival jam sessions and pickin’ till dawn. \nCo-produced by the band and longtime-collaborator Dan Cardinal at his studio Dimension Sound in Boston\, the record is loaded with experimental production\, fearless songwriting featuring input from each member\, finely-crafted collaborative arrangements\, playing that’s virtuosic and visceral. It’s a reflection of what the band listens to. It’s buoyant pop and delicate folk\, raging old-time energy\, and old-school r&b grooves. \nOn vinyl and on stage\, the sound of Twisted Pine is unmistakable\, exuberant\, daring. \nWhat started as a (semi-)traditional bluegrass band in the trenches of the storied folk\, bluegrass\, and Americana scene in Boston a decade ago has bloomed into an ensemble of players who shapeshift across genres. Even the expansive “progressive bluegrass” label doesn’t come close to capturing their musical scope.

SUMMARY:Twisted Pine at The Word Barn

DESCRIPTION:Hound & Handler is a high-energy Bluegrass/Americana band from Boston who released their debut LP ‘Lies & Advice’ in September 2023.
