DESCRIPTION:House of the Dog- Country and Bluegrass by Grain Thief\nJoin us on Sep 27\, 730pm for a performance by Boston quintet\, Grain Thief\, as they perform their newest work\, House of the Dog\, a masterful blend of country music and bluegrass. SUMMARY:Andrew & Noah VanNorstrand w/ Chris Sartori
DESCRIPTION:over the past twenty years Andrew & Noah VanNorstrand have been bringing their brand of original folk music to festival stages\, concert halls\, dance floors and living rooms all over North America and beyond. \nAs teenagers\, they helped define a new generation of contra dance music with their family band The Great Bear Trio and even appeared on the nationally syndicated public radio program A Prairie Home Companion. \nSince then they’ve established themselves as virtuosic multi-instrumentalists and insightful songwriters\, drawing from a wide range of genres including Bluegrass and Appalachian\, Celtic and Quebecois\, Swing and Jazz. \nAndrew and Noah are often on tour with progressive folk roots band The Faux Paws but you can still occasionally catch them performing as a duo\, exploring their deep repertoire and love for American folk music.

SUMMARY:The Gibson Brothers
DESCRIPTION:There’s a reason why Ricky Skaggs pulled Eric and Leigh Gibson off the stage at the Ryman two decades ago and offered to produce their debut record. The same thing that led David Ferguson and Grammy Award winning producer and Black Keys frontman DanAuerbach to co-write and produce their 14th album “Mockingbird” (2018) and release it on his own label Easy Eye Sound alongside cultural icons such as Hank Williams Jr. and Dr. John: the Gibson Brothers are the real deal. They can pick. They can sing. And they can write a damn good country song. They’ve won about every bluegrass award you can name and released albums on almost every premier Americana label you can think of including Sugar Hill and Rounder\, and\, if that’s not enough\, their songs have been recorded by bluegrass legends no less than Del McCoury.

SUMMARY:Nora Brown - Narrow Center for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 18\, 2025\n$31 Advance | $33 Day of Show\n[all-in pricing\, no additional fees]\nDoors 7pm | Show 8pm \nNora Brown was introduced to traditional music by chance as a six year old. What her parents assumed would be standard ukulele lessons were an inconspicuous window to the world of old-time music. From his tiny studio apartment in Brooklyn\, the late Shlomo Pestcoe\, a historian and old-time musician taught Nora old time tunes on the ukulele and through his continued instruction other traditional instruments– the fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar and banjo. \nNora now plays traditional Appalachian music with a focus on banjo playing from Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. Along with mentors in the northeast like the late John Cohen she also has traveled and learned directly from master musicians including Alice Gerrard\, George Gibson and the late Lee Sexton.

SUMMARY:Sam Grisman Project at Rockport Music
DESCRIPTION:The music that Sam Grisman’s father\, David Grisman\, and his close friend\, Jerry Garcia\, made in the early 90s (in the house that Sam grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded\, it also triggers Sam’s oldest and fondest musical memories. What Sam finds most inspiring about this material is the way their camaraderie and their love and joy for the music simply oozes out of each recording. It is also impressive how deeply they get beneath their favorite songs—whether they are originals\, covers\, or traditional/old time tunes—and how expertly that material was curated.

SUMMARY:Tray Wellington Band - Taffeta Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:with The Cody Sisters and Jean-Baptiste Cardineau\nThursday\, November 06\, 2025\, 8:00pm\n122 Western Ave\, 140\, Lowell\, MA\, 01851\, US \nBanjo player Tray Wellington’s approach to the quintessential American instrument is all about looking forward. An International Bluegrass Music Association Award winner\, Wellington is critically acclaimed not only for his technical prowess\, but also for leveraging his unique point of view to craft a one-of-a-kind voice on the instrument. It’s a feat that’s all too rare in these roots genres that seem to value emulation and regurgitation over all else. Instead\, Wellington has time and time again reasserted that his playing style\, and all of the many varied and disparate parts that combine within it\, is wholly his own – and it’s unconcerned with tradition. \nTaffeta Music Hall – Lowell\, MA

SUMMARY:AJ Lee and Blue Summit\, East Nash Grass
DESCRIPTION:Bluegrass is hot\, and AJ Lee & Blue Summit and East Nash Grass are two of the hottest collections of young bluegrass talent you’ll find anywhere in America. Part of bluegrass’ fourth wave\, these are musicians who’ve grown up at the feet of the bluegrass masters\, but see the genre through a wider lens\, incorporating not just Americana and stringband sensibilities\, but rock\, pop\, R&B\, and other flavors that take their music far beyond traditional bluegrass fare\, without losing the essence of what gives bluegrass its heart. Best of all\, when you put two groups like this together on the road\, you can be sure they’ll cook up something special for every show — musicians of this caliber just can’t help but be inspired by each other. Might as well start getting excited now.

SUMMARY:A J Lee plus East Nash Grass
DESCRIPTION:AJ LEE & BLUE SUMMIT \nAJ Lee & Blue Summit are an award-winning\, energetic\, charming\, and technically jaw-dropping band — and one of the most exciting and fast-rising Bluegrass / Americana bands on the scene today. Based in the California Bay Area\, the group met as teenagers\, picking and jamming together as kids at local bluegrass festivals. Currently made up of AJ Lee on mandolin\, fiddler Jan Purat\, guitarists Scott Gates and Sullivan Tuttle (younger brother of Molly Tuttle)\, and bassist Sean Newman\, the band still carries that youthful\, festival-parking-lot energy with them\, yet there’s a genuine ease and confidence to their music making. A breakout year for the band\, 2024 saw them release their critically acclaimed album\, “City of Glass\,” their first label release on Signature Sounds recordings\, combined with becoming one of the most in-demand bands in the Bluegrass scene. In 2025\, the band continues to pack major venues around the country\, along with major festival plays\, and the release of “Cover to Cover V1\,” an EP of cover songs being released throughout the year. \nEAST NASH GRASS \nEast Nash Grass exemplifies the best of what bluegrass has to offer — as being named the 2024 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) New Artist of the Year would suggest. But their talent as singers\, instrumentalists\, and composers is just the beginning. The secret to East Nash Grass lies in their unflinching ability to be themselves. It certainly helps that they are a veritable supergroup of award-winners who have been performing longer than some might guess they’ve been alive\, with experience working with Dan Tyminski\, Tim O’Brien\, Sierra Hull\, and Rhonda Vincent\, as just a start. After hundreds of sets (and countless late-night jams) in Nashville\, East Nash Grass has coalesced into the hair-raising ensemble of Harry Clark (mandolin)\, Cory Walker (banjo)\, James Kee (guitar)\, Maddie Denton (fiddle)\, and Jeff Partin (bass/dobro). Their love of both bluegrass and the absurd can be felt in both their live shows and on their new album “All God’s Children” (Mountain Fever\, 2025)\, which keep listeners on the edge of their seats\, marveling at irrefutable mastery and wondering just what might come next.

SUMMARY:Lonesome Ace Stringband - Passim
DESCRIPTION:The Lonesome Ace Stringband bring grit\, skill and abandon to a music that lurks on the outskirts of old-time\, bluegrass\, and folk. The songs of John Hartford\, Hank Williams\, Dock Boggs\, and The Band share space with the fiddle tunes of Eck Robertson and Ed Haley. Their original songs and tunes take in all these vistas and paint something both personal and timely. \nConsisting simply of fiddle (John Showman)\, clawhammer banjo (Chris Coole)\, bass (Noah Harrington)\, and voice\, the band moves freely between a sound so commanding it doesn’t seem like it could come from a trio to a sparse fragility that draws the listener in.
