2017 Pemi Valley Bluegrass Festival – Band Competition
This is the first annual Pemi Valley Bluegrass Festival band competition. Our goal is to have local/regional working bands perform on the main stage during the competition. The winning band will get to play a 30 minute morning set on the main stage on Saturday August 5, 2017. The winning band will be considered for inclusion in the 2018 festival.
Registration
Submit a band promo kit including a Demo CD or Full length CD, performance schedule for past 6 months, picture of the band and bio to; Pemi Valley Bluegrass Festival PO Box 486 Plymouth, NH 03264. Call 603-239-2238 for more details. Deadline for submission is July 1, 2017.
Rules and Regulations
Each band will be allowed to perform one set lasting between thirty to forty-five minutes. Set time will vary based on the number of bands accepted. Bands will be notified prior to the contest.
Bands need to adhere to the bluegrass theme and style of music. Traditional, contemporary or old-time are acceptable. Original tunes are a plus.
Acoustic instrumentation only, except for bass. No drums or standing percussion allowed.
Musicians may only participate in one band for the competition.
If accepted, Pemi must be notified in advance of any personnel changes. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.
Sound will be provided by Rosewood Sound
Prize Money:
?The winning band will receive a $200 cash prize.
Fan Favorite
Audience members will receive a voting ballot when they enter the festival. Audience members will be able to cast votes up to 20 minutes after the last band has performed. The top three bands will be presented to the judges for final decision.
Judging
There will be three judges selecting the winning band from the popular vote. The judges will be identified at a later date. Bands will be informed of the judges prior to the festival.
Judging will be based on the following categories:
Content – Appearance, use of time, appropriate material.
Originality – Original material or interpretation of the works of others.
Musical Ability – Ability, tone, intonation and difficulty.
Stage Presence – Group communication, fluidity, audience appeal and entertainment value.
Overall Impression
Where To Park or Camp?
All performing band members will be provided a four day event ticket which includes free rough camping. During the band contest, only performing band members will be allowed to park behind the stage. Regular ticket prices will apply to guests of band members. There is no guest list for band contest members.
